“My Heart – The Story of Broken and Healed” is Careen Carlton’s first collection of poems, poems drawn not only from the heart of the author but of the others’ as well. Rummaging through camouflaged human emotion, the words leave the reader with a memory that is familiar. Careen invites us to see, examine and experience the love and desperation, ecstasy and emptiness, fulfillment and honesty in each word. Each piece has a depth that makes understanding our own emotion a little clearer. In her own style, She manages to capture what is often so difficult to express, almost as if she is there with us. “My Heart – The Story of Broken and Healed” is Personal, only an emotional snow-cone can pen.

Booking photo of MC Hammer (Dublin Police via CNN)

MC Hammer is upset with the cops of northern California. On Saturday, he tweeted about his side of an encounter with a “chubby elvis looking dude” earlier this week. The officer arrested him for obstructing an officer; at the time, Hammer was being questioned for driving a car with expired registration. Hammer claims that the first words out of the officer’s mouth were about whether Hammer was on parole or probation. The indignant Hammer apparently got argumentative, and that never ends well. The performer has enjoyed a slight revival of late, including an electrifying “Gangnam Style”/”Too Legit to Quit” mashup at the American Music Awards with Psy. Papa San One BloodWe waited and waited, and the collaboration of the year is here, its Papa San’s new Album, One Blood

Gospel Music’s ultimate fusion of artists and genre has been accomplished  as Papa San joins together with the likes of Lecrae, Fred Hammond, Stitchie and Israel Houghton.  Each artist have their own rhythm in their bones, then it is brought to a climax with the production of One Blood.  Here comes a reggae, dance hall, hiphop, traditional gospel fusions that will surely cause a rumping of the non-foot-stompers.

Papa San has always been known to make strides, being the first dance hall artist to win the american gospel award, the Stellar Award.  San is being sure to assist in the development of many artists and gospel music workers including his son, who is responsible for the production of the album One Blood, and his daughter who is also heavily involved in the marketing of his new project.  Every step made is with his wife, Debbie Thompson right by his side, full of encouragement, direction, strong support and soft whispers.  San is surrounded by the support a man of God needs in a project like this.  Lets join in the support and get our copy of the colloboration of the year, “One Blood”

The Official launch of One Blood will be on January 21, 2014.  We can look forward to hearing  tracks and other artists such as: Da’ T.R.U.T.H., Fred Hammond, Lecrae, Stitchie, Tasan, Israel Houghton, Tiffany Hall, Tyrone Andrew, DJ Nicholas, Ryan Mark, Sherwin Gardner, Jael Wiafe

Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
and did my Sovereign die?

. . . are words we know from our hymnals.  Words that were testimonial and spoke the word of God.  There was a great filling of hymns at the Barbados Gospelfest’s Hymn Speak event.  On occasion, the aisle was occupied with a worshipper lifting up the name of the lord. No precision or energy was spared by director, Antigua born Mikie Rogers. His knowledge of the word, expression of the gospel, the almost aromatic feel of each hymn was worth every moment.

The opportunity to be thrown back to the classical and romantic eras with popular hymns was a treat. Do you remember “Standing on the Promises”, “Sing Them to Me Over Again”, “How Firm a Foundation”, “Break Thou The Bread of Life”? these were the lyrical and musical masterpieces presented at Hymn Speak, “Beautiful Words, Wonderful Words”

Hymns were not the only sumptuous delight of the evening, there was a brass section that blew the notes into the souls of the audience, only causing an even more raptured effect in the event.

Hymn Speak was a classical brought to life in the 21st century

michael winans jrA judge sentenced a member of gospel music’s Winans family to nearly 14 years in prison Wednesday for an $8 million financial scam that was promoted in church pulpits, reports the Associated Press.

Two of Michael Winans Jr.’s victims spoke in federal court, telling a judge that the scheme to sell Saudi Arabian oil bonds robbed some people of their life savings, caused divorces and fractured many families.

“I want to apologize to everyone. … These were decisions that were negligent and irresponsible,” said Winans, of Jessup, Md.

He said he had no “malicious intent” but acknowledged that he continued to collect money even after he learned that the bonds were bogus.

Winans attracted more than 1,000 investors in 2007 and 2008, although he didn’t know them all because many were recruited by others through word of mouth. He promised 100 percent returns in two months, then, used the money for personal expenses or to pay off earlier investors. About 600 people are still owed $4.7 million.

Winans, 30, is a third-generation member of one of gospel music’s first families. He’s the grandson of Delores “Mom” Winans and David “Pop” Winans Sr., and the son of Michael Winans Sr., a member of The Winans quartet of brothers.

Winans has performed with his cousins as “Winans Phase II.” He released his own album in 2011, “My Own Genre.”

Winans relied on unwitting friends to round up investors, a trait of a classic Ponzi scheme. When the bonds turned out to bogus, investors angrily turned on the people who recruited them.

“There are lots of marriages that have been destroyed. I know family members who aren’t speaking to each other,” Tara Hurt told the judge.

U.S. District Judge Sean Cox read from some of the 50 letters written by victims. He said a young woman joined the Army because her family had lost money that was intended for her college education. He noted that Winans made his pitch from church pulpits.

“Fraud on good, decent church-going people — that was very, very troubling to me,” Cox said.

Have you been quoted Psalm 37 when things are not working, to let you know that God has your heart’s desire in focus? Do the “encouragers” also mention that there are a few things you are to do? Yes, we are to delight ourselves in the Lord, and yes, He will satisfy the desires of our heart. A heart that is filled with selfish desires will raise God’s eyebrows though.

We can pray for a host of desires, and if they are way off, God will be putting us on blast. We tend not to mention the other verses in Psalms 37, maybe because we are taking for granted that everyone knows them all. Let us say that we do not. We can’ be fretful about who has and we do not, neither can we not seek his righteousness, and his faithfulness. God wants our relationship, anything where we communicate with him and desire him.

Our desires are on point when we commit our ways to the Lord, trusting him. He promises a revelation of his goodness. Whenever you are being quoted the desires verse, remember the rest. The rest is the condition of that relationship God wants. It is a relationship where the desire is granted and alot of pruning is occurring. It is filled with the proverb of the ways of the christian life, the life of the righteous, and of the wicked . David is not at all light on the comparison of righteousness and the penalty served to sin.

Your heart’s desire will not be considered when your ways are not aligned with God. Connect the perfect will of God with your heart’s desire, this is a complement to the satisfaction of the heart’s desire

Sincerely,
Careen Carlton

I was going through the Billboard charts for gospel music with a fine tooth comb does not make the find multiply.   As much as we may look we will not see gospel music as much as secular music. I will say though that the ones on are forces to be reckoned with. They are constant, and we know most of them.

I am ever proud of the Artists on the charts, and even more proud of the charts that are being created for and of Gospel Music.
Here are a few of them:
