The Barbados Meteorological Services at 5:00 a.m on Friday, 3rd August, 2012.

The centre of ERNESTO has already passed north of Barbados, and is expected to move across the Northern Windward islands during the next few hours. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING remains in effect for Barbados

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING means that the storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area, and in this case, within the next 12 hours.
At 2 am the centre of Tropical Storm ERNESTO was located by the Barbados Radar and Airforce Reserve Hurricane Hunter, to be near  LATITUDE 13.6 NORTH…LONGITUDE 59.7 WEST OR ABOUT 35 MILES…55KM TO THE NNW of Barbados

ERNESTO is moving toward the west at 23 MPH…37 KM/HR. and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 24-48 HOURS.

Maximum sustained winds are near  50 MPH…85 KM/HR…with higher gust. Some slow strengthening is forecasted over the next 24 TO 48HRS.

Tropical storm winds extend outward up to 115 MILES at 185KM/H mainly to the north and north-east of the centre.

Estimated minimal pressure  1005MB … 29.68 inches

The centre of ERNESTO has passed just north of Barbados, and will move across the Northern Windward Islands during the next 12-24 hours


WIND: Tropical Storm conditions are expected within the warning area during Friday night. THus, tropical storm force winds along with moderately heavy showers and thunderstorms are anticipated during this period.

Sea Swells as much as 9 to-12 feet above normal tide levels are expected
